Because of LEAP »LEAP turned me into an intelligent and athletic young woman. LEAP can transform you from a C+ student to an A+ student. It is fun and educational and the counselors are great. They keep us safe and when you are down, they always find a way to make you smile. " —Dianna, age 9 Other ways to contributeWish List Thank you for visiting this page and considering giving one or some of the items listed below. The LEAP summer program is a unique experience for counselors and children alike because the counselors become immersed in the lives of their children – literally. In the beginning of the summer, college-age counselors, called Senior Counselors (SC), move into apartments in the neighborhoods where the LEAP children live. In this way, they get a hands-on experience of how life is for the children who live in economically challenged neighborhoods in New Haven. This experience also allows the children and youth to create deeper bonds. Most kids and their counselors spend extra time together outside of LEAP hours talking, playing basketball, and enhancing the mentor experience. In addition, counselors living together form lifetime bonds amongst each other. Their work has deeper meaning because they are living it together and are invested in the children they serve. In order for the counselors to live in New Haven, LEAP rents housing for the counselors every summer. LEAP needs gifts from generous donors like you to help the counselors live comfortably. Many of the counselors arrive with little more than clothes for the summer. Please remember that this is a gift that keeps on giving, as many of these items can be reused year after year! ****The value of your donation is tax deductible**** For your convenience, we have created a Summer Wish List on Amazon.com.
