Important Information for Kids, Parents & Families Regarding COVID-19:

What is LEAP doing?

Following guidance from the City of New Haven, LEAP closed our after school, evening and weekend programs on March 13th.  We are now working to do several things: (1) provide useful information to families so we can all remain safe, educated and calm during these difficult times (so that's why we have this web page for instance), (2) we are developing programming in consultation with parents that our counselors can do online with kids and working to maintain those important bonds between LEAP, counselors, kids and families, and (3) we are pushing hard to keep the counselors that make LEAP so great working since so many of them rely on a paycheck from LEAP to help their families.

Check back here regularly as we will update this page as we build out our programming.

How to keep your family safe

Follow the guidelines from our local, state and federal governments.  Basic facts: (1) wash hands with soap and water, (2) don't touch your face with unwashed hands, (3) if you have symptoms (fever, cough, sneezing, tight chest) call your doctor or health clinic for advice (do not immediately rush to the hospital because that may not be the best approach), (4) practice "social distancing" and stay at least 6 feet away from others.

If you are not able to reach your doctor (or your child's doctor) and a family member is showing symptoms, call the Yale New Haven Hospital COVID-19 Call Center: (203) 688-1700.

Check these sites regularly as they are updated as often as several times a day.  Do not rely on information from social media or that you hear from friends -- check with these trusted sources for accurate information. Sign up for alerts from the City and State (links below).

Access to Food

With many parents being laid off because of COVID-19, and school being closed, it is important to make sure children still have access to nourishing meals.

  • The New Haven Public Schools have quick pick up of meals at several dozen sites.  They are open from 9 am to noon, Monday to Friday.  Full list of locations.
