Back to School 2020-21

LEAP is reopening programs in October 2020 and is accepting applications now for Leaders In Training. We are excited to get back into working with children.  Our LIT program will run from 3 pm to 6 pm, 4 days a week.  We will be focusing on homework help, academic support, and fun activities to supplemend teen's school experience.

To apply for the LIT program, teens must be between the ages of 13 and 15 years old.  The LIT program takes place at our community center at 31 Jefferson Street in New Haven. It will be in-person 2 days a week and online 2 days a week.

Because of COVID-19, our programs will look different this school year, including:

  • Strong Safety protocols: All teens and counselors must wear masks at all times.  All teens must be screened into the program every day they meet in person with a temperature check and a completed survey so that we know they are not sick and have not come into contact with anyone who is sick. If your child is not feeling well or someone in your house has COVID-19 symptoms, please keep your child home. If there is someone who is vulnerable to COVID-19 in your household (for instance a senior citizen or someone whose immune system is compromised, then it may not make sense for your child to participate in our in-person program (they can still participate in our virtual program.

  • LEAP will have small groups that meet separately to maintain social distancing.

  • LEAP will have a combination or hybrid in-person and virtual program.  Children will particpate 2 days a week in-person and 2 days a week online.

  • LEAP staff will have COVID-19 tests every 2 weeks.
